Iain Forsyth, Jane Pollard / GB, 2014 / 97 min.
Nick Cave had been walking this earth for 20,000 days when he turned 57. Enough reason for the artist duo Ian Forsyth & Jane Pollard to make a mockumentary about a day in the life of the frontman of the Bad Seeds.

In search of Cave’s wells of creativity, the artists decided to – in consultation with the former – to film a fictional day in the life of the performer, composer, author and scriptwriter. This resulted in a stimulating mix of of documentary essay and cinematographic fiction which unearths the drives behind Cave’s multifarious ambition. Among other things, Cave is portrayed as the chauffeur of a car that transports celebrities including singer Kylie Minogue and actor Ray Winstone. “Cars are a locus of fantasy where my ideas appear in the shape of people who played a role in my history,” explains Cave in an interview.
20.000 Days on Earth won prizes for direction and editing at the Sundance Film Festival. Forsyth & Pollard were already known for A Rock 'n' Roll Suicide, a mythical re-enactment of David Bowie’s final performance as Ziggy Stardust.
