Amsterdam Forever Young: 50 Jaar feministisch filmcollectief Cinemien
This special programme on Feministisch Filmkollektief Cinemien from Amsterdam will screen both historic films about gender equality.
The Feministisch Filmkollektief Cinemien from Amsterdam was founded in 1974 and started operating from the squatted Amsterdamse Vrouwenhuis [Amsterdam Women’s House] along the Nieuwe Herengracht [New Men’s Canal] that had been re-christened the Nieuwe Vrouwengracht [New Women’s Canal]. The collective had a pioneering role in the struggle for gender equality in the film industry and developed into a leading international distributor of feminist films. This special programme will screen historic films about current issues concerning gender equality.

6 through 26 March, Eye celebrates the legacy of Feministisch Filmkollektief Cinemien (1974-1989), which blazed a trail when it came to raising the profile of female filmmakers. This film programme links the collective’s work to urgent contemporary themes, and features exceptional 16mm projections, rarely screened titles from the Global South, newly restored works, rediscoveries and the nationwide reissue of Vera Chytilová's Daisies.
