All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt
Terra Incognita: All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt
Shot on 35mm, a poignant and richly sensory portrait of a Black woman's life in Mississippi traversing time and generational memories. With introduction by programmer Aileen Ye.

The film moves freely in time, revelling in the beauty of nature and the minutiae of human connection – a pair of intertwined hands, a swaying dance, a lingering hug – as its characters contend with love, loss, grief, joy, and the unexpected moments that shape a life.
Nature is a source of nourishment and solitude, a setting for romance and play. It's where Mack bonds with loved ones and receives tradition, and also the site of her mother Evelyn's tragic, untimely death. As the years wind back and forth, she grows older, falls in love, gleans wisdom from her elders, gives birth, grapples with the idea of motherhood, grows older still, her roots embedded deep within the soil.
Written and directed by Raven Jackson, who began as a poet, her work explores landscapes of indefinable experiences and emotions, as well as the body’s relationship to nature. This film visualises and embodies the poetic format like no other, exploring how memories and life itself never really end or begin.
