Alledaagse waardigheid
Ida Does / NL, 2023 / 67 min.
Premiere of Alledaagse waardigheid [everyday racism] during Black Achievement Month. In her documentary, Ida Does investigates the impact of Professor Philomena Essed’s work on the current generations in their struggle against racism, exclusion and discrimination. Featuring live music.

Alledaagse waardigheid [everyday dignity] looks back at the tumultuous 1980s and 1990s, when the young academic pioneer Philomena Essed conducted groundbreaking research into racism in the Netherlands. Her book 'Alledaags racisme' [everyday racism] from 1984 remains a milestone. For this documentary, Essed – who currently works and resides in California – once again meets Princess Irene of the Netherlands, who she presented the first copy to and talks to young students.
