Dick Maas / NL, 1988 / 112 min.
Dick Maas' iconic urban canal thriller in which Inspector Eric Visser (Huub Stapel) investigates a series of bizarre murders in Amsterdam. All the victims’ mutilated bodies are found floating in the water. Filmed at locations including the Groenburgwal with dilapidated, boarded-up buildings in the background.

Eric Visser’s investigation into a serial killer takes a very unexpected turn after a dalliance with diver Laura (Monique van de Ven) who is undergoing therapy with a suspect, the psychiatrist Ruysdael. Featuring a wonderful cast of favourites familiar to Dutch audiences of the 1980s including Serge-Henri Valcke, Hidde Maas, Jaap Stobbe and Tatum Dagelet as a foul-mouthed teenager, cameos by Bert Haanstra and Simon van Collem, and a theme tune by Dutch band Loïs Lane. During the legendary speedboat chase, that was filmed on the canals of Utrecht, Stapel hit the quayside so hard he seriously injured his ribs.
