La visite
Director: Tommy Pascal
Choreography: Wanjiru Kamuyu
Year completed: 2020
Country of production: France
Duration: 10:00
La Visite resonates elements of Wanjiru Kamuyu's solo 'An Immigrant’s Story' with the historical layers of the Palais de la Porte Dorée, that was constructed for the Paris Colonial Exposition of 1931. This building echoes the colonial heritage and the contemporary revolts that have their roots in this history.
Drapetomania
Director: Richard Kofi
Choreography: Junadry Leocaria
Year completed: 2022
Country of production: The Netherlands
Duration: 4:57
The term Drapetomania refers to a supposed mental illness that caused enslaved Black People to flee captivity. In this abstract dance film, a couple tries to find a way out of a collapsing world. Their quest for freedom rips apart the logic of the reality that they are part of. They become the glitch in the system, rapture the timeline and disrupt the narrative.
The Uninhabitable Ones
Director: Anderson Bardot
Year completed: 2020
Country of production: Brazil
Duration: 24:59
A Brazilian contemporary dance company is working on a new choreography: Inabitáveis (Uninhabitable), a performance about black homosexuality. Intertwined with this is the story of Pedro, a young trans-girl who is looking for the freedom to express herself. She deeply wishes for the choreographer to take her under his wings.
