Chess of the Wind
Mohammed Reza Aslani / IR, 1976 / 93 min.
Thought to be lost for many decades, this film was restored in 2020. A classic from Iranian filmmaker Mohammed Reza Arslani; a murder mystery with horror undertones, mixing European influences with the aesthetics of Persian painting. The film received only a single public screening in Persia, in 1976.

An opulent villa in nineteen-twenties Teheran; the heirs to a recently deceased matriarch squabble over their inheritance – the house and gardens – and become entangled in a web of envy, hatred and betrayal. Tensions come to an explosive head in the final act, when the (power) relations between them culminate in a violent confrontation.
