Het oeuvre van Hin
Meet the Archive: de films van Hin
In this Meet the Archive, curator Rommy Albers and guests will discuss the rich oeuvre of father and son Jan and Kees Hin. Jan was a member of the avant-garde in the thirties, Kees an idiosyncratic, independent filmmaker. In search of differences and similarities.

Jan Hin (1899-1957) started his career with Joris Ivens as part of the filmmaking avant-garde in the Netherlands in the thirties, when he founded Hinfilm, making several films for the more progressive Catholic community. His best-known film is Kentering from 1932, a film made for the RK Werkliedenverbond (Roman Catholic Working People’s Association).
His son Kees Hin (1936-2020) developed from the mid-sixties into an idiosyncratic, independent maker of films and television, making over a hundred films. From short, poetic observations to feature-length fiction films and documentaries. Illustrated by short films and clips, curator Rommy Albers will discuss the work of these two filmmakers with son and brother Loet Hin and Bauke Marinus: in search of differences and similarities.
Following this deep dive into the work, at 18:45 there will be a presentation dedicated to the films of the Hin family, with screenings of Jan Hin’s De eereschuld (1946) and Naar aanleiding van een dagboek (1977) by Kees Hin – two documentaries that focus on World War II.
