The Tower of Crossed Destinies: Duvidha
Mani Kaul’s 1973 classic explores the haunting and surreal world of a newlywed bride left alone in her in-laws’ house when her husband departs on business.

Her life takes an unexpected turn when a ghost falls in love with her and assumes her husband’s identity. Mani Kaul took inspiration from a Rajasthani folk tale for his classic film.
Director Mani Kaul was one of the key pioneers of the avant-garde strand of Parallel Cinema or New Indian Cinema. Many of his films have a distinctive visual sensibility that drew on the indigenous influences of Indian art, particularly painting and music. Duvidha is deeply rooted in Rajasthani culture, bringing to life the region's landscapes, architecture, and customs.
Culinary tribute
Just before the screening, the Amsterdam-based collective Maison Dante is going to surprise us with a culinary tribute to Duvidha. Expect to bring these thoughtfully crafted offerings into the cinema, while watching the film.

Programmers of the Future 2025
Three new Programmers of the Future present their film programmes in Eye Filmmuseum this July. With films about the magic of a spontaneous encounter in a public space, about folklore, fairy tales and mythology, and about memory as an act of resistance.

Eye Film Player
On the Eye Film Player, you can also enjoy beautifully restored versions of early cinema trick films from the Eye collection, featuring the famous fairies — tiny cinematic gems in their own right, restored by Eye curator Elif Rongen-Kaynakçi. The films will be available from 15 July.
