Een dagje naar het strand
Theo van Gogh / NL, 1984 / 88 min.
It seems like innocent fun, a day at the beach. But in this film with that title, things take a different, tragicomic turn. Theo van Gogh’s adaptation of Heere Heeresma’s novella is regarded as one of the most successful Dutch literary film adaptations.

In Van Gogh’s second feature film, Cas Enklaar gives a memorable performance as Bernd, a divorced man with a taste for the drink who takes his slightly disabled young daughter Walijne (Tara Fallaux) on a day trip to Scheveningen. Bernd wants to be a responsible father, but drink gets the better of him. Nevertheless, his bond with his daughter seems unbreakable: she’s his best friend.
