Eyeshadow: Desperately Seeking Susan + Sheila and the Kit
First a film, then a live performance: each month Eyeshadow combines a solid classic with happening bands. Popstar Madonna sings ‘Into the Groove’ in this comedy about a bored New York yuppie housewife who gets carried away by the lonely hearts ads. The synth-pop of Sheila and the Kit builds on the ’80s with girly vocals and dynamic drum beats, perfect for dancing the night away.

Roberta Glass (Rosanna Arquette) has a tedious life as the wife of a successful businessman. To relieve her boredom she avidly reads the lonely hearts ads in The Times and gets fascinated by a recurring one in which a man is keen on meeting a woman called Susan (Madonna). Each ad is headed 'Desperately Seeking Susan'. Roberta decides to tag along for the next meeting with Susan in this deliriously funny comedy of errors.
The fast-paced script brilliantly reflects the fashion, music and art world of New York of the late 1980s and has become iconic for this era of big hair, coked-up synthesizer pop and jerky dancing.
edgy and energetic
Sheila and the Kit are not afraid of “shameless pop“ and combine girly vocals with motoric synths and drums. The result is an edgy and energetic sound that is irresistible on the dancefloor. The band is clear about its mission. “We were very happy as kids so we don”t go on about misery and failures, but about the things that we were dealing with back then: crushes, discomforts, clothes, books, hobbies, skating and 7-Up.”
