Formed by the Gaze, Twisted by the Beast

Ginta Tinte Vasermane / NL, 2024

With a great deal of humour and a predilection for the absurdity of the everyday, Ginta Tinte Vasermane explores human behaviour, power relations, social norms and role-playing in a new video installation developed during her residency at Eye.

Formed by the Gaze, Twisted by the Beast is a multi-channel video installation developed by Ginta Tinte Vasermane as Eye’s fourth Artist in Residence. For this installation, Vasermane drew inspiration from the extensive collection of silent slapstick and vaudeville films held by Eye, particularly those silent films with an anarchic or subversive slant. In her artist talk on 3 December at 19:30, Vasermane shares her working process and shows her sources of inspiration.

Opening
Join us on December 3 at 21:00 for the ceremonial opening of the installation including live performative interventions by Vasermane, performed by Diego Oliveira, Jana Jacuka, and Ahmed El Gendy and musical score by Elizabete Beāte Rudzinska, Marcus Wärnheim, Néstor Martínez Jara, and Katerina Orfanoudaki. The performance will be followed by a DJ set by François Dey and Alexis Papamarkou.

Eye Artist & Scholar in Residence programme
Ginta Tinte Vasermane is Eye's fourth Artist in Residence. The residency programme welcomes artists and scholars to explore and creatively reuse archival material within the Eye collection.
