Het gangstermeisje

Frans Weisz / NL, 1966 / 119 min.

With immature hubris, Frans Weisz wanted to catapult a film into the world that would ‘make all other films obsolete’. Het gangstermeisje became a cult film; energetic, with feverish expectations for the future.

September sees the publication of 'Frans Weisz. Dagboek van een filmmaker' [Frans Weisz: diary of a filmmaker] by journalist Harry Hosman, about the career of one of the Netherlands’ principal and multi-faceted filmmakers. Weisz rose to prominence with films including De inbreker, Charlotte, Leedvermaak as well as the TV serie Bij nader inzien. The original cut of his feature film debut Het gangstermeisje, which is 10 minutes longer than the versions people are familiar with, was recently discovered in Eye’s collection and reconstructed.
