When Ben Sombogaart’s film Het zakmes was released in 1992 it impressed with its fresh and natural acting and modern theme. Six-year-old Mees has to fend for himself, being the child of busy parents with little time to spare. The by now classic youth film has recently been digitally restored. Starring Olivier Tuinier, Adelheid Roosen, Genio de Groot and Beppie Melissen.
Het zakmes (The Pocket-knife), after the novel by Sjoerd Kuyper, won the golden Calf for Best Director at the Netherlands Film Festival and received numerous international awards.
