It's a Wonderful Life
Frank Capra / US, 1947 / 129 min.
80th Anniversary of this ultimate Christmas film, with its shameless, sentimental, warm humanity and equipped, as it is, with a happy end. James Stewart plays the suicidal George Bailey; guardian angel Clarence helps the former change his mind. At the time, Stewart was Hollywood’s biggest star. 4K restoration.
It’s a tradition. Eye annually programmes this heart-warming classic during the dark days before Christmas. George Bailey is the good soul trying to keep a bank solvent in small town USA which, due to his business partner’s unfortunate machinations, seems doomed. While everyone around him gears up for a happy, jolly Christmas, Bailey is about to end it all.
