Knockin' on Herman's Door
Stefano Bertacchini / NL, 2021 / 50 min.
Never before seen footage of Herman Brood songs as well as the chaotic shoots for the film Cha-cha constitute the basis for this ode to Cha-cha and Dutch po music. Featuring: Wild Honey, The Streetbeats (with Jan Rot), Inside Nipples and The Meteors as well as an introduction by filmmaker Stefano Bertacchini and senior curator Rommy Albers.

1979 saw the release of Herbert Curiël’s music film Cha-cha featuring Herman Brood and Nina Hagen. A number of Dutch bands were to have cameos in the film, but didn’t make the final cut. In 2015, Herbert Curiël (1927) bequeathed his archive to Eye: countless boxes of papers, documents, cuttings and, to our great surprise, the film footage and sound recordings for Cha-cha.
