Laatste dagen
Maartje Seyferth / NL, 2024 / 80 min.
Premiere of the latest film by independent film duo Victor Nieuwenhuijs and Maartje Seyferth. In the twilight of his life, Max is haunted by the echoes of his lost loved ones as the specters of his past bleed into the reality of his crumbling world.

The elderly German Max Severin embarks on a poignant journey to reconnect with the loved ones he lost during World War II. Returning to the house where Max once rented a room before the war, he finds himself entangled in a labyrinth of memories. The house with the dark corridors, the peeling wallpaper, the curtains that move gently in the wind, everything bears the traces of a gruesome past.
His relationship with both his landlady and her daughter intertwines with the tumultuous events of the past, as Max grapples with the trauma of war and the loss of his Jewish loved ones.
Now, in his twilight years, Max confronts a new battle—one waged within his own mind. As his memories blur the lines between past and present, Max's emotional barriers begin to crumble, revealing the profound impact of history on his life.
Retrospective
The release of Laatste dagen (Last Days), the latest film by independent film duo Victor Nieuwenhuijs and Maartje Seyferth, is reason for Eye to dedicate a retrospective to their 40-year collaboration within the production house Moskito Film. Their artistic short films, artist documentaries and often surreal, sensual and dark feature films challenge social norms and cinematic conventions.
"At Moskito Film, we embrace the pure and dark facets of human existence, fearlessly exploring themes that challenge and provoke. Our films are not merely stories; they are immersive experiences that invite audiences to confront the complexities of the human condition."
