Claire Burger’s layered coming-of-age story portrays the meeting between Fanny and Lena, two 17-year-old school students on an exchange programme. The girls – who have contrasting characters – get to know one another against the backdrop of the political situation in contemporary France and Germany.
Their only contact so far has been the messages they’ve exchanged as pen friends. But Fanny in Strasbourg has never met Lena in Leipzig, and vice versa. An exchange programme changes this.
