Mid-winter 1899, schoolteacher Aimée arrives in a remote mountain village in the French Alps. As her progressive ideas clash with the community’s values, she slowly becomes entranced by nature’s magic. Louise Hémon’s first feature film.
The final winter of the 19th century is snowy and windy as schoolteacher Aimée arrives in a French mountain village. She intends to teach the village’s children an enlightened programme and their parents all the new ideas about hygiene and parenting.
Short Film
Prior to the screening of L’engloutie, you will see La Fée des roches noires (3') by Segundo de Chomón from 1907. A fairytale film about a lazy man who refuses help to an old woman, and is subsequently visited by bad dreams in his sleep.
