Love Streams
John Cassavetes / US, 1984 / 141 min.
Film genius John Cassavetes and his equally brilliant wife, actress Gena Rowlands provide astounding, vulnerable acting as an emotionally wounded brother and sister, reunited after years apart. In memory of grande dame Gena Rowlands, who passed away on 14 August 2024.

The final film by the king of the independent filmmakers is about aging bon vivant and bestseller author of romance novels, Robert (Cassavetes) and his emotionally unstable sister Sarah (Gena Rowlands) who reunite after years apart. "Love is a stream. Its constant, never ending," says the wonderfully eccentric woman who is embroiled in a custody battle with her ex-husband (Seymour Cassel).
Cassavetes – uncompromisingly authentic – takes detailed X-rays of the unchained emotions and lobe in all its wonderful and brutal moments.
Also to be screened in Eye, on 4 September 2024: Gloria (1980) featuring Gena Rowlands as a woman who risks it all to bring the child of murdered mob bookkeeper to safety.
