Lumière! L’aventure commence
Thierry Frémaux / FR, 2018 / 90 min.
It’s exactly 130 years ago that the Lumière brothers organised the first ever public film screening, in Paris. Eye is commemorating this exceptional event by screening a compilation of Lumière films put together by Thierry Frémaux, director of the Cannes Film Festival.

Thiery Frémaux, who is also director of the Lumière Institute in Lyon, has always been fascinated by the early days of cinema, and in particular the activities of Auguste and Louis Lumière. The brothers are known as the developers of the Cinématographe – the first film projector (based on an earlier design by Léon Guillaume Bouly). This made it possible to project films (silent films at that time, lasting one or two minutes at most) onto a large surface.
