Manakamana
Stephanie Spray, Pacho Velez / US, 2013 / 118 min.
Hindu pilgrims, tourists and startled chickens and goats in a cable car that goes to the Manakamana temple, high in the mountains of Nepal. The trip takes ten minutes: the duration of a 16mm roll of film. Stephane Spary and Pacho Velez filmed eleven trips, with enchanting results.

Before the cable car was built, it took pilgrims hours to reach the top of the mountain; but for the past fifteen years or so, modern transport takes them in just ten minutes up to the Manakamana temple: a place where for centuries Hindus have come to seek happiness and prosperity from Baghwati, the goddess of beauty.
