Metropolis
Giorgio Moroder / US, 1984 / 84 min.
Fritz Lang purists be warned: this is the 'adapted' version of Lang’s classic, made by legendary disco producer Giorgio Moroder in 1984. This Metropolis now has a significant cult status all of its own.

You could say this eighties version is a re-interpretation the original: Giorgio Moroder cut Fritz Lang’s science-fiction epic Metropolis down to a more convenient 83 minutes, coloured some scenes and provided the film with a lush over-the-top '80s score featuring pop numbers from Pat Benatar, Adam Ant, Bonnie Tyler, Loverboy and Freddie Mercury – who had a modest hit with the song Love Kills, written specially for the film.

Feat or Failure
Magnum opus or flawed masterpiece? No film divided opinion at the last Cannes film festival as much as Francis Ford Coppola's latest epic, Megalopolis. To accompany the première, Eye is screening a selection of other films that turned out to be way ahead of their time – in spite of not being well understood in their own era.
