Moonlight
Barry Jenkins / US, 2016 / 111 min.
Screening of the Oscar-winning debut feature by Black American filmmaker Barry Jenkins, in homage to pioneer of independent Black American cinema, Charles Burnett. Without Burnett, he’d never have been able to make Moonlight, Jenkins has said.

An Oscar for Best Picture, seven Oscar nominations, dozens of awards: Moonlight received the greatest possible appreciation from critics and audiences alike. And this while it’s subject – the coming-of-age of a Black, homosexual young man in a crack-ravaged Miami neighbourhood – does not fit within the Hollywood norms. The film’s emphasis on the humanity of the characters, irrespective of their origins and actions, clearly resonates.
Screening of a new 4K-DCP (Splendid Film).
