Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
Frank Capra / US, 1939 / 128 min.
Fake news? Smear campaigns? They've been around longer than we're likely to think, as is evident from Frank Capra's classic about a young senator who takes a stand against political corruption. A fitting choice in the week of the US presidential election.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is one of the greatest American political films and features a young James Stewart as Jefferson Smith. This young idealistic senator refuses to give in to corruption and wages war on Washington’s political establishment, which doesn’t help. A smart media campaign aims to destroy Smith’s squeaky clean image, however the young senator manages to stay afloat.
