Mythical Cinemas: Tuschinski's Dream
Jérôme Diamant-Berger / FR, NL, 2017 / 52 min.
This documentary series takes us on a trip to mythical cinemas all over the world. Each of these cinemas has made an indelible impression on the history of its country and film history. In this episode, Max von Sydow tells the story of Amsterdam’s Tuschinski Theater.
After 50 years in exile, an old man returns to a cinema familiar from his youth: the Tuschinski Theater in Amsterdam. This famous cinema embodied the dream of Abraham Tuschinski, who left his shtetl in Poland and established himself in Rotterdam, where he started a canteen to welcome Jewish immigrants.
