Following the success of the grim Taxi Driver (1976), Scorsese surprised critics and audiences with the hyper-stylized New York, New York, a two-and-a-half-hour homage to the golden age of the Big Band, the 1940s. New 4K restoration.
Robert De Niro and Liza Minnelli are a married couple – New York musicians trying to hit the big time, as a talented saxophonist and singer respectively. She creates furore, while he remains unrecognised, in spite of his talent – drink, bar fights, marital strife and a baby on the way don’t exactly make things any easier.
New restoration
Restored in 4K in 2025 by Amazon MGM Studios and The Film Foundation, from the original 35mm camera and sound negatives.
