'Paikar' – Persian for ‘war’ or ‘warrior’ – is the nickname of Afghan artist/filmmaker Dawood Hilmandi. This is how his parents proudly address him, but in this family portrait the title seems more of a burden than a blessing. In Paikar, Hilmandi presents his return home, where he seeks to repair his relationship with his authoritarian, ageing father.
