American audiences couldn’t get enough of Hitchcock’s psychological thriller (based on Daphne du Maurier’s novel of the same title) with a romantic tint. The 'master of suspense' cast top British acting talent such as Laurence Olivier, George Sanders and the as yet unknown Joan Fontaine for his story of a doomed marriage.
