IDFA 2026
By employing daring cinematic languages, these experimental films insist on the ongoing resistance of oppressed communities to refute colonial myths of absence, to subvert attempts at cultural assimilation and to oppose violent occupation.

Programme

The Recce
In 1904, a European expedition set out for Uganda to investigate whether a Jewish state could be established there. That history emerges from this meta-documentary about imperialism, antisemitism, and the myth of an “empty land.”

The God That Destroys
Using archival footage, animation, and music, a South African filmmaker takes a perspective of solidarity to look back at the history of the oppressed Sámi people, the Indigenous inhabitants of northern Scandinavia.

Ãsheghetam
A punk portrait of queer love in Tehran, set against a backdrop of protests against the regime. Computer animation, fiction, and documentary are woven together into a kaleidoscopic, expressionistic cry of vitality.
