Mediating between the internal and external, four women share the beauty, difficulty and immediacy of being present in the world. Co-commissioned by Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch and filmed in Iceland, Mother Melancholia is a strikingly and hauntingly beautiful film, a multi-layered collage set to a soundtrack for the end of the world.
LIVING ON THE THRESHOLD
Director: Marine Chesnais, Vincent Bruno
Choreography: Marine Chesnais
Year completed: 2021
Country of production: France
Marine Chesnais is a dancer and choreographer that comes from a family of sailors and navigators. In July 2020, she decided to go to Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean to meet humpback whales. Her experience of the big blue, opened a threshold, a space of discovery of the other and a rediscovery of oneself. Her hypnotic bio-inspired dance, shot on breath-hold, questions our way of inhabiting life.
In five full days, Cinedans presents the state of the art of international dance film in partnership with dancescreen - IMZ International Music + Media Center Vienna.
