Spoorloos
George Sluizer / NL, FR, 1988 / 106 min.
Tense film adaptation of Tim Krabbé’s novel The Golden Egg (published as The Vanishing), in which a young woman (Johanna ter Steege) disappears at a petrol station while on holiday in the South of France. Her boyfriend continues to search obsessively for her for years. Dutch classic, reissued in a 2K restored version.

Stanley Kubrick called it “the scariest film I ever saw” – no small compliment from the maker of The Shining. This psychological thriller by George Sluizer is certainly disturbing, oppressive and mysterious. The Vanishing is a nail-biting account, bursting with suppressed tension, of a sudden disappearance and the consequences for those left behind.
