Stop Making Sense
Jonathan Demme / US, 1984 / 88 min.
Legendary concert recording from 1984 of new wave/post-punk band Talking Heads with frontman David Byrne, restored in 4K to celebrate its 40th anniversary. Regarded by many as the best concert film of all time. Dance along version!

Jonathan Demme transformed the concert into an overwhelming visual experience. The absurdly outsized suit worn by David Byrne when he sings 'Girlfriend Is Better' became a legendary fashion statement and visual symbol of the film. The peaceful opening scene straight away breaks all the rules of the concert film. Byrne walks onto a bare stage carrying a boombox, switches it on and sings along to 'Psycho Killer'. The instruments are brought on, their cables plugged in. The musicians then relentlessly ramp up the tempo.
