True Stories
David Byrne / US, 1986 / 88 min.
Inspired by David Byrne’s scrapbook of tabloid clippings, True Stories is a series of vignettes set in the fictitious town of Virgil, underscored by the magnificent, vigorous new wave funk of Talking Heads.

It was probably only a matter of time before Talking Heads frontman David Byrne directed a film: the band’s image and videos were always very strong visually – take, for instance, his famous oversized suit from the concert film Stop Making Sense (1984), the new, 4K restoration which will be screened at Eye from 11 January 2024 onwards.
