The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
Joel Coen / US, 2018 / 133 min.
Flowery monologues, absurd twists and every Wild West archetype imaginable. In their western anthology film, the Coen Brothers make fun of the genre whilst simultaneously celebrating it. Featuring Liam Neeson, James Franco and Zoe Kazan.

Six different stories about archetypes in the archetypical western genre, told and filmed by the Coen Brothers resulting in a anthology film in the archetypal style of a typical Coen Brothers production. That is perhaps a complicated way of saying that The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is both an ode to the western as well as a sometimes hilarious deconstruction of a tried-and-tested Hollywood genre.
