The Big Heat
Fritz Lang / US, 1953 / 89 min.
Classic from Columbia Pictures, which recently celebrated its centenary. Acclaimed film noir by refugee from Nazi Germany Fritz Lang, with Glenn Ford as a hard-boiled police inspector and Lee Marvin as the villain, revealing the porous boundary between the legitimate world and the underworld.

Police Inspector Dave Bannion (Glenn Ford) tries to bring down an influential mafia boss and his sadistic henchman (Lee Marvin). This doesn’t go smoothly: the crime syndicate do everything they can to sabotage Bannion’s investigation; the inspector finally feels obliged to resort to the same immoral methods as his sadistic low-life opponents.
