The minute-long time capsules are renowned for their unique resolutions. A compilation of this astounding footage takes viewers back to life around 1900, when cities like Berlin, Amsterdam and London underwent enormous growth as well as to Venice, which back then, was a holiday destination for the happy few.

Mutoscope and Biograph Company were some of the first film companies to record important events and these were globally distributed. The BFI and Eye collections have preserved some of these films and Eye even has the world’s largest Mutoscope and Biograph Company collection with over 200 films.

50 films from Eye and the BFI’s Mutoscope and Biograph collections have now been digitally restored (8K). The Mutoscope and Biograph films (68mm) originate from the collections of Eye Filmmuseum (Amsterdam), the British Film Institute (BFI, London), the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA, New York) and the Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée (CNC, Paris).
