The Holy Mountain (4K)

Alejandro Jodorowsky / US, MX, 1973 / 113 min.

Could it get any more colourful, grotesque, insane after the ’70s cult film, El Topo? Of course it could. Just one example: the scene in which the Mexican revolution is re-enacted by toads. Jodorowsky pulls out all the stops in this, his third feature.

In Jodorowky's first two films, the protagonists undertake a journey to a mythical destination that turns out to be both physical and spiritual. This is again the case in The Holy Mountain: a tramp takes on a journey to enlightenment in a group led by an alchemist played by Jodorowsky himself.
