The Ladykillers (2004)
Ethan Coen, Joel Coen / US, 2004 / 104 min.
A self-deprecatory Tom Hanks plays a self-proclaimed professor and clumsy robber facing off against an intelligent landlady in this remake of the classic Ealing Studios comedy The Ladykillers from 1955.

In this remake, Tom Hanks adopts Alec Guinness’ role as Goldthwait Higginson Dorr, the self-proclaimed classics professor. Dorr rents a room in a lodging house, telling the landlady (Irma P. Hall) that he leads a classical music ensemble that needs a practice space and privacy. However, what Dorr and his team are really doing is digging a tunnel in order to rob the Bandit Queen casino. When their intelligent landlady finds out, the gang undertakes many comical-clumsy attempts to do away with her.
