The Last Waltz

Martin Scorsese / US, 1978 / 117 min.

Scorsese recorded The Band’s last concert at Bill Graham’s Winterland Ballroom in 1976 with the same flair as all of his feature films. The Last Waltz features a parade of rock legends, from Joni Mitchell and Van Morrison to Bob Dylan.

poster The Last Waltz (Martin Scorsese, US 1978)
‘The most beautiful rock film ever made,’ according to The New York Times. The Last Waltz is not only a unique relic from the 1970s, to The Band it meant revenge for that other legendary music documentary, Woodstock. Their gig at that festival was recorded, but was edited out of the final version.
