The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)
Noah Baumbach / US, 2017 / 112 min.
Dustin Hoffman shines as the patriarch of a dysfunctional New York family. His children assemble for a family reunion, where submerged tensions come to the surface, with comical and tragic results. Also featuring Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller and Emma Thompson.

As in much of Baumbach’s semi-autobiographical work, this tragicomic ensemble film revolves around the neurotic scions of a family: retired art professor (and once promising sculptor) Harold Meyerowitz (Dustin Hoffman) and his two sons: Danny (Adam Sandler) who is embroiled in a divorce, and his half-brother, manager Matthew (Ben Stiller). Jean, a silent presence as their sister, has her own traumas to process. One got too little attention, while the other got too much – recriminations towards the vain, bitter old patriarch are legion.
