He is a professor leading a study group on ‘Hitler studies’, she is a mentally unstable wife who takes mysterious pills to quiet her mortal terror. Together they have six children from several marriages – and their lives are being threatened by a chemical disaster. This, in short, is the storyline of Noah Baumbach’s latest film, a streaming production that world-premièred at the Venice film festival, and can be seen on Netflix from 30 December.
