Joanna Hogg / GB, 2021 / 107 min.
Tilda Swinton and her daughter Honor Swinton Byrne play mother Rosalie and daughter Julie in the sequel to The Souvenir, in which film student Julie loses her heart to a manipulative older man. In Part II, Julie processes these experiences by making a film.
Filmmaker Joanna Hogg used experiences from her own life in the semi-autobiographical The Souvenir, about film student Julie (Honor Swinton Byrne) and her troubled – not to say self-destructive – relationship with an older man. Mother Rosalie (Tilda Swinton) warned her daughter, who disregarded all her good advice.
Before the screening of The Souvenir II, you will see the short film Stop! (6') by Mathijs Geijskes. The cliché of a film within a film is carried through to the absurd in this very realistic-looking short film.

The films featured in Eye’s Previously Unreleased programme were screened at major national and international festivals, but were never released to Dutch cinemas. Every summer, Eye brings a choice of films previously selected for international festivals to Dutch film audiences to redress the balance.
