The Trial
Orson Welles / FR, IT, DE, YUCS, 1962 / 119 min.
Orson Welles' feverish adaptation of Kafka's novel Der Prozeß (1925). Amid a dizzying labyrinth of brutalist tower blocks and claustrophobic offices, chief clerk Josef K tries to defend himself against accusations of an unspecified murder.

Orson Welles manages to very convincingly translate the claustrophobia Kafka elicited to the big screen, encouraging the cast, including Romy Schneider and Jeanne Moreau, to great performances. Anthony Perkins plays the astounded office clerk Josef K. who becomes ensnared in a bureaucratic maze dominated by corruption and paranoia.
