Jacques Tati / FR, IT, 1971 / 97 min.
In Tati’s last feature film, Mr Hulot travels to the international auto show in Amsterdam where he wants to present his invention, a multifunctional camper with more absurd technical innovations than James Bond’s cars. The journey, however, is far from smooth.

Masterfully crafted and packed with visual gags, Jacques Tati takes the viewer on a hilariously disastrous road trip from Paris to Amsterdam, as Mr Hulot faces a series of nonstop chaotic traffic situations.
Bert Haanstra (Zoo, Glas) initially worked on this French-Dutch co-production. Tati admired Haanstra’s work and wanted to collaborate with him. Working on the screenplay together proved difficult, however, and Haanstra withdrew from the project. In the credits he is listed as ‘close colleague’, under the name of Bert Naanstra.
