Utz
George Sluizer / DE, 1992 / 95 min.
Armin Mueller-Stahl won a Silver Bear for Best Actor in Berlin for his convincing portrayal of obsessive porcelain collector Utz. George Sluizer (The Vanishing) brilliantly captures the melancholy atmosphere of Prague before 1989.

Opera-loving Baron Kaspar Joachim von Utz, aka Utz, is a collector of precious porcelain Meissen statuettes. When his friend, New York art dealer Marius Fischer, hears that the baron is ill, he travels to Prague to visit Utz and his collection. There, he comes across a mystery: both the porcelain collection and the baron’s housekeeper have vanished without trace. Together with an old friend of Utz, the eccentric Dr. Orlick, Fischer tries to find out more about the life of this exceptional man. As well as what happened to that collection worth millions?
