Anatomy of Time
Jakrawal Nilthamrong / TH, SG, NL, FR, 2021 / 118 min.
A Thai woman looks back at her life while caring for her violent husband. Mysterious, meditative film that provides much food for thought: on endurance, sacrifice and acceptance of the choices made in the past.
Maem is a young woman living in the Thai countryside in the ’60s: a time when tensions between the military dictatorship and Communist rebels are flaring up. Maem is being courted by two very different young men – a quiet rickshaw driver and an ambitious, ruthless army commander who literally pushes his rival aside. Fifty years later, the army commander is a general who has fallen from favour. Maem cares for her violent husband during his final days and looks back on her life, full of loss and happy moments.
