In a small Finnish town, Aki Kaurismäki builds his own cinema in an old metalworks, together with his friend, the poet and writer Mika Lätti, and the locals. The backdrop to this ‘Kino Laika’: Cadillacs, motorcycles, rock bars and the awe-inspiring beauty of nature.
Together with the inhabitants of the small Finnish town of Karkkila, Aki Kaurismäki hand-builds a new cinema, using recycled word and second-hand furniture. Karkkila seems like the last remaining bastion of untainted innocence, where people still have time to tend to their horses, repair their Cadillacs, philosophically smoke a pipe over a chessboard, or play pool by the jukebox as the cool beer flows.
