Remarkable documentary about the usually closed filmmaker/visual artist David Lynch, who speaks extensively of his youth, formative years at the art academy and his early films. Screening to commemorate the death of the Master of the Macabre on 15 January.
David Lynch (1946-2025) was not exactly forthcoming when it came to offering interpretations of his own work or providing biographical information. In fact, Lynch was the last to answer questions about the origins, meaning and purpose of his work.
Nevertheless, documentarians Jon Ngyuen, Rick Barnes and Olivia Neergaard-Holm managed to get the usually reserved Master of the Macabre to talk. Then-seventy-year-old Lynch talks freely about his idyllic youth in provincial Missoula, Montana, and his art academy years in Philadelphia, at the time a grimy city in decline, which served as the setting for Eraserhead, Lynch's first feature film.

In Memoriam David Lynch
The creator of classics such as Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, Eraserhead and Mulholland Drive died on 15 January 2025 from complications of the lung disease COPD. Lynch, an inveterate chain smoker, was 78 years old. A number of films by the sympathetic Master of the Macabre can now be seen in Eye Classics.
