Gu Xiaogang’s feature film debut was screened at major international festivals, attracted major audiences in France, yet didn’t get a Dutch release. This calmly and exactingly directed film depicts a rural Chinese family coping with the vagaries of life. Nationwide Dutch release.

A year in the life of the Yu family in Fyuang, a Chinese provincial town, soon to be absorbed by ever encroaching Hangzhou City. When the 70-year-old mother has a stroke, her four sons and their families must modify their lives whilst dealing with their own problems.
This film will also be released in national cinemas by Eye Filmmuseum.
